Where should I look first?
Look at the stage the case is probably at. A recent complaint or incident is likely at the police stage, and a case that has been sent on is with the Public Prosecution.
Use our guides to check a police case and to check a prosecution case. For a court case, use the court handling it or ask a lawyer.
How do I check for a warrant or a travel ban?
The Prosecutor can issue a notice to appear, an arrest warrant or a travel ban, and the ban is circulated to all ports (Article 99 of the Criminal Procedures Law). A prosecutor's warrant is enforceable across the State for six months unless extended (Article 101).
Do not test it by going to an airport. Ask a lawyer to check for a warrant and a ban together with the authority that holds the file.
What can go wrong with self-checks?
Using unofficial sites or agents, sharing your ID details with strangers, and acting on a partial result.
A result that shows no case at one authority does not prove there is none at another. A lawyer can check each stage and tell you what the answer means.
What should I do if there is a case?
Note the reference, the authority, the date and the allegation. Do not contact the other side. Prepare for any date you must attend and speak to a lawyer first.
If you are abroad, take advice before you return so you know what to expect on arrival.

Frequently asked questions
Can a case exist without me knowing?
Yes. A complaint, notice, warrant or ban can exist before you are told, which is why checking early matters.
Is no result proof there is no case?
No. Each authority has its own records.
Who can check for me?
A lawyer acting for you can enquire with the authority.
Should I go to the airport to see?
No. A warrant or ban can mean arrest or being stopped.
