Can I find out if a Red Notice exists?

INTERPOL says you can contact the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL's Files, an independent body, and that applications are free of charge and treated confidentially.

Most notices are not public, so a search of public pages may show nothing even when a notice exists.

Why do people ask for a check?

Usually because of a bank closure, a refused visa, an airport stop, or news of a case abroad. A notice may be one explanation among several.

We help you separate a notice from a national warrant, a travel ban or a banking decision, because each has a different remedy.

What should I do before travelling?

Take advice first. A notice is an alert to police in member countries, and each country decides how to act on it.

Do not travel to test whether a notice exists. If a notice is confirmed, we plan the next steps with you before any journey.

What should I do first?

  1. Write down what prompted the doubt

A closed account, a refused visa or an airport stop, with dates.

  2. Ask the CCF the right question

The aim is to learn whether data about you is held, and in what form.

  3. Do not test it by travelling

If a notice exists, a border is the worst place to find out.

  4. Decide what to do with the answer

If a notice is confirmed, we plan removal, travel and the underlying case together.

Frequently asked questions

Does a check show who requested the notice?

That depends on what the CCF discloses, which can be limited. We tell you what we can confirm.

INTERPOL says applications to the CCF are treated confidentially.
